On Camera 101 7-12

On Camera 101 will be an ongoing class for brand new screen talents as well as novices that want to touch up on their skills in front of the camera. From cold-reading exercises, eye lines, hitting marks, audition prep and even an end of semester video showcase and feedback panel. You’ll be able to take your clips home every week and watch your growth. Learn while working and learn while watching. Students will perform in front of the camera every week receiving feedback from our instructor(s) and taking direction. When not performing all other students will watch live in person as well as via monitor to see what the notes are doing in real time.

Musical Theatre
Musical Theatre Prep Track

If you are interested in becoming a triple threat, this class is for you! Come explore and experience musical theatre and its unique performance demands.
This class is designed to help students learn all the essentials of musical theatre in a fun, creative and supportive environment.
It will teach the fundamentals of using drama, song and dance to create characters and tell a story. Become a more versatile performer while studying the following:
- musical theatre dance incorporating Broadway styles
- vocal performance
- diction
- theatre techniques
- acting for the stage
- character development
- improvisation
- audition techniques
The class meets on weekly on Wednesdays from 6:00pm–7:30pm and the course culminates in an informal showcase performance of material covered in class.

PLAYhouse Productions

Does your kid love to sing, act, and dance? Do they need an outlet to shine? If so, Orbit Arts Academy is the place for you and your family! We offer a wonderful program for kids, ages 7–12, called Orbit PLAYHOUSE. These young students get to work with instructors that have worked on Broadway and beyond. Our goal is to help shape young people as performers. We believe that instilling kindness and good work ethic in children, while having a safe space for them to be creative, is the best way to nourish their joy of the arts. Come on down and let’s put on a show!
This class will meet on Sundays: 1:00pm–4:00pm or 3:00pm–6:00pm; $125/month tuition.

Beginner Tumbling/Acro

Acrobatics is used in performing arts and is a combination of flexibility, agility and bodily coordination, and is similar to the floor skills of gymnastics. It is a high energy performing art that focuses on strength, stretch, balance and partnering work. Dancers who train in acrobatics have balanced development, are stronger, more flexible and fearless.
Examples of skills that are taught and mastered in Acrobatics are:

On Camera Exploration for Orbit Jr students provides an immersive introduction to the film and television industry. Stage Combat 7-10

This is a introductory course in Stage Combat. Students learn the basics in the mechanics of conflict with Stage Combat Safety, and necessary skills pertaining to Unarmed Combat and Weapons. This is all about the actor’s approach to fight scenes and the use of body, movement and style. We examine the necessary elements for an actor to make a fight scene safe, truthful and interesting.

Wiggles and Giggles

A wiggles and giggles class will begin with a circle time activity. We will sing various songs we can clap and move our bodies to. There will be hands-on props that will encourage your child’s musical awareness and creative expression. Caregivers will assist their child in activities that encourage the use of gross motor skills. Little ones will practice turn taking and listening skills! Class will run 45 mins with a ½ hour of story time, singing along, and activities followed by 15 minutes of free. This class encourages self expression while creating a community for parents and children to interact with one another each week.

Scene Study 10+

In this class your student will dive deeper into the nuts and bolts of putting a scene together. This class will be an introduction to the process of preparing and rehearsing a script. Your student will also learn to navigate working with a partner or partners, how props can add to a performance, and how the unplanned can work to their advantage. Our goal is for the artist to find their authentic connection to each character’s experience from a place of honesty. A commitment to rehearse with partners outside of class is required.

Improv Technique

Join experienced improvisers for the nuts and bolts of comic improvisation, basic improv platforms and other short- and long-form techniques. Through exercises, games, and activities designed to stretch the imagination, the instructor will lead each student individually and this class collectively towards a mastery of improvisation technique.
Students will learn first hand the importance of Improv. Whether it be in daily life or on the stage, thinking quick is a skill best learned early. This class will teach just that while also invoking fun and laughter through games and comedy.

Musical Theatre
Audition Prep Course

Designed to give students confidence and integrity for auditions in musical theatre, this is a practical and fun course which helps the student investigate, select, and prepare appropriate material for various types of audition calls.
Students will engage in discussion of and singing preparation for songs that are chosen and suited for their strengths, as well as learn what is best suited for their individual “type.”
Sheet music will be selected and given to students each week in order to fill their “songbook”—their musical theatre repertoire—with songs for future auditions.
Each student will also gain a background in musical theatre history and appropriate audition etiquette for success in the industry.

Triple-T Training Program

The Triple-T Training program includes classes in acting, musical theatre and dance; and includes a detailed approach to acting through song with an accompanist. This program provides thorough training in all musical theatre styles and techniques. Each semester will conclude with a showcase of student work.

Advance Ballet 13+ moves at a faster pace with complex combinations, which will challenge dancers’ coordination, memorization, and endurance while maintaining proper alignments and techniques. Advanced On Camera (All Ages)

Advanced On Camera is for advanced students already working and training in TV/Film and will have a mandatory Audition process for acceptance. With many of the same elements of On Camera 101 there are higher expectations of the actors in this class. From being completely off book when asked to be and taking direction at any moment. It will also feature a multi-camera setup teaching actors about the importance of continuity, hitting their marks for focus and real life logistics to prepare you for a professional TV/Film set. Students will be shown how set works from when you arrive, blocking rehearsal, camera setup, to your first take all the way through the martini shot.

Orbit College Preparatory Program

Designed for students in their junior and senior year of high school, this 2-hour intensive program will aid young actors in choosing material for auditions for collegiate and University BFA and BA programs in Acting and Musical Theatre. Staff will provide coaching and assistance on song cuts, monologues and interviews. Opportunities for college application counseling will also be available as well as special guest presenters.

Apprentice Company members will spend the Fall season preparing for participation in a Winter musical theatre production from the canon through a Broadway licensing company. The Spring will focus on in depth acting, song approach (solo and group), and dance training culminating in a Spring showcase performance. During this time, they will receive the utmost possible training in each required musical theatre medium.
